What do you love most about being a massage therapist?
I love being able to help people learn to appreciate and respect their bodies. A lot of people don’t understand how much of a beating their body takes from everyday activities like sitting at a desk, walking, carrying small children or driving in a car for long hours. When you add in strenuous exercise, manual labor and long hours of standing at work, different parts of the body really begin to break down. I love that moment when the light bulb goes off for my client and they begin to understand just how strong their body is and that by allowing themselves to set time aside for a massage, they are not just enjoying a luxury, but they are giving their body the care and attention it needs to remain strong and healthy.
What’s your primary massage technique? What symptoms or ailments is this massage best suited for?
I take a very integrative approach to massage. I’m always up for the challenge of deep work in problem areas, but then I also like to make sure the person also leaves feeling relaxed. This type of massage is great for anyone who has an area that needs extra attention but still wants a full body massage that is relaxing as well as therapeutic.
What do you do to unwind at the end of a crazy day?
The best way for me to unwind is surrounded by my two dogs while sipping on a glass of wine!
What’s your morning routine?
I just started school again, so I wake up, grab my coffee and then begin working on homework for about an hour or two. I then try to go for a run before taking my dogs on their daily walk. After that, I’ll eat breakfast, take a shower and then either run errands or continue with homework before going to work or school.
What are your hobbies?
Running, working out, playing with my dogs, reading and spending time enjoying food with my friends.
What’s your favorite thing about the state of Michigan?
The change of seasons! I love being able to witness one season end and the next begin. Those first few weeks where when the weather either starts to warm up and the sun is out more or you can feel a chill in the air and the leaves begin to change colors are magical. And I actually like snow and cold weather! I would never want to live somewhere that didn’t snow.
When did you start working at Essential Massage Therapy?
September 2015 will be my five-year anniversary of working at Essential!
If you could have dinner with one person, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
I would have one more dinner with my mom. Going out to eat was always our “thing.” Even if we were fighting, we would never let that get in the way of going out to dinner! We might just glare at each other across the table, but eventually we would be passing notes back and forth on napkins about the odd couple sitting next to us, having forgotten that we were made at each other. My mom was not shy with food and raised me the same way. I’ll never be a dainty salad picker and I have her to thank for that.
